Based on a script by Tom Benn, Moin Hussain's film Real Gods Require Blood is a deft entry into the genre film, a mesmerising blend of horror film and social cinema. Somewhat reminiscent of The Turn of the Screw, this narrative's Alice enters a world of many wonders where fantasy shatters a little more with each shot the trivial realism of a suburban house. The seedy atmosphere, reddish lighting, enigmatic children in a Gothic huis clos. Each new heartbeat brings along its own anxiety as blood is about to be shed.
